1First Bank
First chartered in 1948, FirstBank was the first Savings and Loan institution established in Puerto Rico. Then in September 1962, FirstBank accomplished its first expansion outside of Puerto Rico to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Through the years, FirstBank has played a fundamental role in improving the quality of life in the Virgin Islands, by helping citizens acquire their first home, purchase automobiles and establish savings and credit facilities
In 2002 after acquiring the Chase Manhattan Bank operations, FirstBank became the largest bank network in the U. S. Virgin Islands serving St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John, as well as Tortola and Virgin Gorda in the BVI.
Through the support of its clients, FirstBank has experienced consistent growth and transformation within the BVI banking industry. In 2008, FirstBank introduced Saturday hours, placing them in the lead for longest service hours of any bank in the market. They continued their expansion in the market in early 2010 with the opening of the Anegada Service Center. The Service Center further established a relationship with the Anegada community which first started when the Bank adopted the Claudia Creque Educational Center; the only school on the island.
It is without a doubt that FirstBank has become the leading financial institution in the Virgin Islands with fourteen branches over five islands, 33 ATM locations and over 400 employees. More importantly, FirstBank also understands how to be an outstanding corporate citizen. They know being the best also means giving back to the community by supporting education, investing in health care and treatment and making sure that families see them as more than a bank. Since late 2002, FirstBank has provided funding to over two hundred local programs, events, projects and organizations that benefit the BVI community. Their philanthropic efforts are channeled to where they are needed most - at the local level in which the company operates.
